A STAY WITH A STORY

Built in the late 18th century, Victoria House is a piece of Frederiksted’s living history. Over the years, the property has been home to prominent merchants and members of the community, and its story is woven into the history of St. Croix itself. After being partially damaged during the 1878 Fireburn labor insurrection, the house was rebuilt, gaining the distinctive Victorian character and gingerbread detailing that remain part of its charm today. The property has been lovingly renovated while preserving many of its original features, giving guests the opportunity to experience a genuine piece of old Caribbean history while enjoying the comforts of a boutique island stay.
 

Today, Ruff Resort at Victoria House begins a new chapter for this historic property...one that brings together island hospitality and a mission to help dogs in need. Located on the waterfront in the heart of Frederiksted, the resort offers nine individual suites, a courtyard and pool, event spaces, onsite dining and drinks, and easy access to the beaches, restaurants, shops, diving, snorkeling, and unforgettable sunsets that make St. Croix’s west coast so special.
 

At the heart of this new chapter is Ruff Start STX, St. Croix’s underdog dog rescue. The organization works to find and save the dogs who are often overlooked...the critically ill, injured, abandoned, elderly, scared, and otherwise vulnerable dogs who need time, medical care, rehabilitation, and a chance to trust again. Ruff Start STX also works to keep pets with their families through affordable and free community clinics and other resources that help prevent animals from becoming homeless in the first place.
 

That mission is woven into the Ruff Resort experience. From RUFF Night – Hair of the Dog Bar, where proceeds support Ruff Start STX, to our Canine Concierge program, which gives guests the opportunity to spend time with foster dogs during their stay, there are countless ways to connect with the animals who make this place so special.
